Data licensing

We believe in telling you plainly what you may do with each kind of data we serve, and what needs a license from someone other than us. This page is the authoritative version of the license_note you see in API responses.

1. Voltcast's own output — yours to use

Forecasts (P10/P50/P90 curves), optimization results, derived statistics, accuracy metrics and any other computed output are Voltcast's own work product. Under an active subscription you may use, store, redistribute and build commercial products on them within your plan's terms. Attribution is appreciated but not required for our own output.

2. Verbatim day-ahead prices: DE-LU and Austria

Verbatim day-ahead price values for the DE-LU and AT bidding zones are redistributed from SMARD.de (Bundesnetzagentur) under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. You may copy, redistribute, adapt and use them commercially, provided you keep the attribution: "SMARD.de, Bundesnetzagentur | CC BY 4.0". We include this line in every applicable API response (meta.attribution) — pass it through to your own users.

3. Verbatim day-ahead prices: other bidding zones

For other zones, exchange operators (NEMOs such as EPEX SPOT and Nord Pool) assert redistribution rights over verbatim day-ahead price values published via the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform. Until this is resolved in writing (our inquiry with ENTSO-E is pending), we treat verbatim prices for those zones as license-encumbered: we serve them to you for your internal use, and if your product republishes verbatim prices for those zones at scale, you (or we, on Scale plans) may need a NEMO data license. We will always tell you plainly which zones this affects — no surprises in an audit.

Türkiye is sourced directly from the EPİAŞ Transparency Platform, not from ENTSO-E. EPİAŞ documents free platform access, unlimited history and free web services, and explicitly supports integration into external applications. Its public documentation does not expressly grant commercial bulk redistribution or raw-data resale. We display the registered service's MCP, load and generation data with source attribution; customers must not resell a bulk raw EPİAŞ feed without obtaining any permission their use requires.

5. Fleet map: what is registered and what is derived

The fleet overlay draws only turbines that a national register places individually. Positions and operating status come from the registers above and are never inferred. Output is modelled: we apply an IEC power curve to 100 m wind from Open-Meteo, the same conversion our forecast stack uses, so the coloured values are estimates rather than metered generation.

Great Britain is sourced differently, and we say so plainly. The UK publishes no register that locates individual turbines: REPD gives one coordinate per project, so London Array's 175 turbines share a single point. We therefore take British turbine positions from OpenStreetMap and everything else — project capacity, per-turbine capacity, turbine count, operating status, onshore/offshore — from REPD. REPD's turbine count is what makes the pairing checkable: a project is only shown once OpenStreetMap supplies at least 75% of the turbines the register says it has, and only if those turbines are tightly enough grouped to be one wind farm. Projects failing either test are omitted rather than estimated, which is why the map shows about 88% of Britain's operational wind capacity rather than all of it. British positions are community-surveyed data, not a government register, and are less certain than the German, Dutch or Norwegian positions.

One register needs a further note. NVE's Norwegian turbine layer carries no per-turbine capacity, so each turbine is assigned an equal share of its parent plant's registered capacity. Plant totals are therefore exact; individual Norwegian turbine capacities are an allocation. Norwegian offshore wind is not included, as it sits in a separate NVE dataset. We publish no fleet layer for countries whose registers only locate whole projects rather than turbines.
